The just concluded 2017 edition of the Nollywoodweek film festival in Paris will continue to trend in town for a long time due to its rich and eclectic nature as the movies “The Wedding Party” and “76” stole the show.

The four days long festival which was the 5th edition of the celebration was praised by journalists as well as film critics who were highly impressed by the quality of the selected films for this year’s edition of the event.

A total of 11 selected films were shown during the course of the festival and comprised of the top five films in competition to win the ultimate Public Choice Awards which includes: Dinner, Gidi Blues, Green White Green, The Wedding Party and 76.

“The Wedding Party” and “76” which later won the Public Choice Award for 2017 are two very different films which have collectively left an indelible mark on the Nigerian cinema landscape over the past year.

On receiving the festival trophy, the Director of “76”, Izu Ojukwu, said, “I was not expecting this award. It’s an honour for me and for everybody who worked on the film”.

On the other hand,Moses Babatope who represented “The wedding party” film Director, Kemi Adetiba, in his acceptance speech, expressed his joy on receiving the award and mentioned that it was a good omen as the production of “The Wedding Party 2” had just begun in Lagos and Dubai.

Also, the Director of Communication and co-founder of the festival, Nadira Shakur said, “The festival has really cemented its place in the Parisian cultural calendar. Each year we try to offer the very best of Nollywood to the Parisian public by bringing the newest developments in the industry. This year we screened a web-series from REDTV and for the first time, an animated short film from Anthill Studios called Play-Thing”.

The movies “76”, “The wedding party” and a host of other Nollywood films continue to break new grounds within the shores of Africa, Europe, Asia and America with viewers anxiously waiting for “the wedding party 2” and a lot of other Nollywood films that are yet to be released within the year.
