As the World Health Organization announces the outbreak of EBOLA in the Democratic Republic of Congo,the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) has assured passengers and airport users of safety at the nation’s airports.
In a statement released by the Authority’s Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu in Lagos, the Authority noted that adequate measures have been put in place to checkmate the re-occurrence of any such outbreak in Nigeria.
According to her, “The EBOLA Screening Points and detecting machines have been fully reinstated at the airports. The Authority is also collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health, through the Port Health Service to reactivate the EBOLA Awareness and Sensitization Campaign”.
Speaking further, she emphasized that all measures adopted in 2014 to curtail the dreaded virus is very much in place and has been fortified.
While stating emphatically that there is no outbreak of EBOLA in Nigeria or at any Nigerian airport, she implored passengers and airport users to go about their business activities without fear.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole over the weekend called for heightened vigilance and intensified awareness efforts on the symptoms of hemorrhagic fevers.
He stressed that, “The Symptoms to look out for include; fever, fatigue, weakness dizziness and muscle aches. Patients with more severe cases show bleeding under the skin, internal organs or even from bodily orifices like mouth,eyes and ears, and all Nigerian health workers are directed to maintain a high index of suspicion by screening all fevers for Ebola”.
Similarly, the minister encouraged members of the public to observe a high level of personal hygiene which includes regular hand washing and to also report all cases of fever to the nearest health facility.
