Abuja-As part of its digital awareness program, the Nigerian Communications Commission,(NCC) has donated 190 used computer systems and accessories to the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) Abuja chapter.

The used computer systems and accessories which includes 60 units of monitors, 35 central processing units, 30 printers, 50 UPS’s and 15 laptops would be used by the NCS to set up computer laboratories in secondary schools.

At the event which took place on Tuesday, in Abuja, The Executive Vice chairman NCC Professor Umar Dambatta, who was represented by the Director Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, said that the goal of the NCS to set up computer laboratories in secondary school, was in line with the “catch them young”  digital awareness program” of the commission.

He adding that such projects undertaken has helped to shape the lives of many children in the country and in turn grow the economy.

According to him; “We believe that this industry which has as of today contributed 10 percent to the Gross Domestic Profit (GDP), can contribute so much more”.

Earlier in his remark, the Head of information technology, Mr. Abraham Oshdami, said the donated computer accessories were not out of date but are no longer in use by the commission following internal regulations of use of systems.

He further enlightened that the hard drives of the systems had been replaced and all other accessories serviced.

Also, the Chairman Nigerian Computer Society(NCS) Abuja chapter, Mr.Rex Abitogun appreciated the NCC for its generosity and zeal to promote computer and technology literacy across the country.

He promised that the society would continue to push for better digital awareness not just in urban areas but also in the rural local government schools, adding however that the NCS Abuja chapter, would be training both students and teachers at the schools in which the laboratories would be set up.
