The Board and management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has announced that the warning strike by the railway unions has been called off to pave way for the commencement of train services immediately, as contained in the joint communique signed by the Management and the unions.

In a statement signed by the Management of the NRC, the Corporation told the general public, especially its valued passengers, that the strike was called off after consultations with the two in-house unions of the Corporation.

The NRC, however noted, that as part of safety measures there will be joint inspection of the rail lines by NRC Engineers and Security personnel for confirmation of track safety before train departures commence.

The various train schedules for today are as follows: AK3 will depart Idu train station at 09:30am subsequently KA6, AK7, KA8, AK9, and KA10 will follow as scheduled in the current train time table.

Lagos to Ibadan train services will resume at 1p.m from both Lagos and Ibadan Train stations.

Meanwhile, the Warri to Itakpe train service also begins as follows: WITS 01 and 04 leave Agbor train station at 09:20am to Itakpe and WITS 02 and 03 leave Agbor station to Ujevwu at 11:50am both trains commence according to the current time table.

“The Board and Management of the NRC congratulate the two in-house unions for the successful industrial action. The NRC management expresses concern for any inconveniences this strike may have caused our valued passengers”, the statement concluded.

Recall that the unions had grounded operations of train services due to poor welfare packages and remuneration. The warning strike they said, was to alert the government to their plights and the need for improved welfare.
