ABUJA: As the election year draws near, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai has again urged officers and men of the Nigerian Army to remain apolitical as any attempt to politicize the army will be strongly resisted.
He maintained that the focus of the army is to improve on the intellectual capacity of its operational level leaders.
Buratai was speaking today at the commissioning of the new army war college complex in Abuja.
The Army Chief said the college establishment was basically to develop the capacities of Nigerian Army officers at the operational level, stressing that the operational level remains the bridge between the strategic and tactical levels.
“It is necessary to say that most of the temporary security challenges being faced by Nigeria, are being tackled at the operational level.
“Therefore every army that has very skilled professionals at the operational level, is one that is poised for future success, as this category of officers constitute the critical mass of the army”.
He stressed that due to changes in the nature of threats, and the increased complexity and unpredictability of modern warfare as a result of technological advancements, it has become pertinent to build the necessary intellectual capacity of the army to operate in an asymmetric environment that is volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous.
He disclosed that the institution will generate operational strategies and propose workable causes of action to aid the Army effectively carry out its constitutional mandate of protecting the territorial integrity of the country.
Speaking earlier, the Commandant, Army War College of Nigeria, Major General John Enenche highlighted that the college was conceptualized to conduct professional military education for officers of the rank of colonel, lieutenant colonel and their equivalent in sister security agencies.
