The management of Plateau United Football Club of Jos has commended the state governor Simon Lalong for being pillar of the team through his financial and moral support which saw them escape relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football League in the just concluded 2018/2019 season.

The General Manager of the Club, Pius Henwan who gave the commendation through a statement signed by the Media Officer of the team, Albert Dakup noted that the governor’s unwavering support and encouragement was what propelled the team to avoid the drop.

Henwan, also appreciated the fans and the people of Plateau State for their prayers and support to the team and urged them to see the club as a Plateau project which requires support, irrespective of political and religious affiliations.

Henwan, equally praised the untiring efforts of the outgoing Youth and Sports commissioner, Victor Lapang for his interest and concern in the team, describing the gesture as commendable.

He explained that Plateau United was used as a scapegoat to settle scores after crisis of interest erupted between some big wigs within the football fraternity in the country.

The General Manager lamented that the gang up which was within and outside the state see the team relegated at all cost, also have the support of some faceless people of the state who feed their cohorts with falsehood about the team.

While calling for the sustenance of the support, Henwan assured that the team will bounce back stronger and better next season to compete for laurels in the NPFL.

The General Manager pointed out that efforts are being made by management of the club under his leadership to reposition the team so that it can compete for laurels with its peers next season as they did two years ago when they won the league title against all odds.

It will be recalled that Plateau United that won the Nigeria Professional Football League title two years ago, battled for relegation for most part of the season and through God’s intervention, escaped the drop on the last day.
