As governorship election holds in Osun State, the Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari has called on all stakeholders in the election to play their roles with patriotism and efficiency toward a peaceful, free, fair and credible poll.
While receiving a delegation from the Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), Abari stressed the need for caution in political messaging during election to avoid the precipitation of crisis as witnessed in other African nations. He said Nigeria could not afford to allow such because no country in the sub-region could take even ten percent of Nigeria’s population as refugees if crisis erupts.
He also called the Osun electorate to shun voter apathy by turning out to participate in deciding the future of the State through their ballot while commending the CVL for adding value to the leadership selection process of the country.
Leading the CVL delegation, Mr. Rasheed Adegbenro said the Centre was concerned about engaging and influencing policies from their formation stage for easy implementation. He said 2019 should be about policies, hence its commitment to sensitizing Nigerians on their roles in choosing the right leaders in the Osun and 2019 general election through its “Walk Your Talk” campaign.
Adegbenro enjoined Nigerians not to only criticize government policies but also proffer solutions and alternatives with focus on transparency, accountability and anti-corruption. He also urged NOA to step up its voter sensitization and advocacy toward a hitch-free 2019 election.
