Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will chair the inaugural Public Sector Risk and Governance Summit (PSRGS) 2021 taking place in Abuja on November 30.

According to a statement on Monday by Martins Hile, Project Lead at Conrad Clark Nigeria Limited (CCN) – a leading strategic risk and performance management consulting firm – the Vice President will give the opening address at the summit, which will be held at the auditorium of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the Federal Capital Territory.

CCN has said its flagship PSRGS is a platform for decision makers, thought leaders and other stakeholders to discuss best practices in delivering good risk governance and efficient public services to achieve economic prosperity and social progress in Nigeria.

The first edition of the summit is themed, “Unlocking the Heart of Nigeria – A Risk-Based Approach,” and is organised in collaboration with CLEEN Foundation, a civil society organisation focused on promoting public safety, security and accessible justice; Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and the Integrity Organisation, an anti-corruption research, advocacy and consulting organisation. It is also supported by the NUC.

“We are greatly delighted to announce that the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will be our Summit Chair.” said Joachim Adenusi, Summit Host and Managing Director/CEO of Conrad Clark Nigeria. “His acceptance to participate at our summit is a considerable endorsement of our effort to engage Nigerian public sector institutions and political leaders in dialogues on the art of effective risk handling and galvanise stakeholders into embracing new approaches for delivering services, optimising public performance, and improving transparency and accountability.”

Speakers at the one-day hybrid summit include Dr. Tayo Aduloju, Senior Fellow, Economic Policy, Strategy and Competitiveness at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG); Prof. M.L. Amadu, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Research and Special Duties; Prof. Peter C. Young, 3M Chair in International Business at the Opus College of Business of University of St. Thomas, USA; Dr Majak D’Agoot, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London; and Osita Chidoka, Founder, Unlock Naija.

Subtopics for the summit are: Managing Risks in Public Sector: Advancing the practice of risk management to improve outcomes; Public Transparency and Accountability Risks; The Imperatives of good governance and economic opportunities; Measuring Performance Outcomes in the Public Sector; The key to improving leadership and institutional performances; and Risk of Unfulfilled Political Promises: Improving public service delivery and trust in government.

According to Conrad Clark Nigeria, effective risk management in the public sector will empower stakeholders in properly assessing and handling current risks, preventing future risks and leveraging opportunities amid uncertainties in a fast-changing world.

The summit panelists include Barr. Aliyu Abdullahi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity; Ruth Olofin, Acting Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation; Dr. Charles Omole, Technical Adviser at Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives; Habiba Balogun, Principal Consultant at Habiba Balogun Consulting; and Dr. Bala Magaji, Director at the Integrity Organisation; and Davida Ademuyiwa, Councilor for Basildon Council, Essex, United Kingdom. Others are Damilola Sonayon James, Youth Advocate and Social Policy Practitioner; and Adeoti Dipeolu, Researcher at African Leadership Centre; among others.
