Abuja-Otunba (Dr). Gabriel Emiola Ogunsuya, has emerged as the President,National Fish Association of Nigeria(NFAN), at the inaugural elections which held in Abuja recently.
The Sight News gathered that, the election which was supervised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Raw Material Research and Development Council, and other related establishments, also saw the emergence of Alhaji Sanusi Maikudi, as the Secretary General.
NFAN is the umbrella body for all operators, stake holders in the fish and fish related business, with the aim of organising and coordinating the operatives in the fish value chain for better economic benefit to members and the country in general.
Furthermore, the election was peaceful with about 500 delegates from all the 36 states of Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking to The Sight News, the consultant of one the amalgamated associations, the Fish Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, Dr Paul Nkade, expressed his admiration for the passion exhibited by delegates in the election process, urging members to work in line with the vision of the new executives.
Also speaking, the Legal Adviser of NFAN, Barrister Ndubisi Kalu Agbayi who swore in the newly elected executive members, advised stakeholders to stick to the rules of the constitution in order to benefit from the numerous Federal Government programmes on fish value chain.
Meanwhile, there seem to be a great future in the fish business, considering the various Associations that have come together for the common good of fish value chain.
In the words of the CEO/MD of Blue Berry Group, “As an integrated farmer with all the facilities in the fish value chain and now the Secretary General of the National Fish Association of Nigeria (NFAN), we are set to work with the Federal Government, to achieve the national goal of making fish business a major revenue source for the country”.
