The Federal Government of Nigeria has entered into an agreement with the Republic of Guinea Bissau that will pave the way for the effective deployment of 120 TAC volunteers that will assist in boosting the Health Sector of the Republic of Guinea Bissau.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada while signing the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria said the gesture by Nigeria to the Republic of Guinea Bissau was to lift up a sister country that is in dire need and as well build bridges.
He called on the Republic of Guinea Bissau to fufil its own part of the agreement by making it very much easier for the deployed Doctors to carry out their assignment.
He said Nigeria will continue to cherish the cordial bilateral relations that exists between the two nations and prayed that the two countries shall continue to build on it for the benefits of their citizens.
The Guinea Bissau Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Dr. Joad Rebeiro Buitiam Co, expressed the Republic of Guinea Bissau’s gratitude to the Government and People of Nigeria, particularly President Muhammadu Buhari on this gesture and many others done to his country by Nigeria.
He said this particular gesture in addition to many others, especially the recent deployment of Nigerian troops through the ECOMOG for the stabilization of Guinea Bissau have clearly shown the leadership role of Nigeria in the continent.
Ambassador Buitiam Co gave assurance that all the Doctors deployed to his country under this agreement would feel at home as his country will do everything possible to make their stay in Guinea Bissau a worthwhile experience.
Earlier, the Director General of the Technical Aid Corps, an umbrella body under which the Doctors would be deployed, Dr. Pius Osunyikanmi, said the deployment of the 120 Medical Doctors to Guinea Bissau was in line with Nigeria’s Foreign Policy.
He said the exercise has been subjected to a painstaking process to ensure that the right things were done.
The agreement was signed Wednesday, 24th November, 2021 at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Abuja.
