The National Conscience Party (NCP) has condemned in totality, the move to reduce political parties in Nigeria.
This is just as it called on Nigerians, to hold their representatives accountable, saying that such a move is undemocratic and must be rejected by all Nigerians.
In a statement by the S.A Media to the National Chairman, Comrade Omole Olusegun, the party appealled to the Senate to urgently reduce the cost of governance and make life more bearable for every Nigerian.
“The NCP calls on Senator Ahmed Lawal led 9th Assembly to also reduce the cost of running the country’s legislative arm, as they are there to serve not to be served.
“The present proposed 2020 budget shows that the National Assembly budget is higher than the Nation’s Education and Health budget. The Senate should use its good office to promote education not otherwise,” he said.
He further noted that as Nigeria is one of the leading countries with the highest number of out- of -school children, the lawmakers should see reasons to eradicate illiteracy in the country.
“Since Nigerians now have the opportunity to settle down for credible political parties that will promote and protect the interest of the masses because of the poor performance of the two regular Actors, there is a need for the Upper Legislature to guide the institutions of Political Parties jealousy.
“A reduction in the number of political parties to five, is never a solution, rather a shameful ambition and should not be nursed by an Arm of Government, which by its nature cannot function optimally without political parties,” Olusegun ended.
