ABUJA: The Nigerian Air Force (NAF),has disclosed plans to provide medical care to 1,500 Nigerians, in its medical outreach programme, aimed at giving back to the society; which is part of activities to commemorate the 54th Anniversary of the NAF.
Addressing Newsmen in a press brief on Monday in Abuja, ahead of the celebration, the Chairman Organising Committee, Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, noted that the medical outreach is especially for those who are not opportune to asses such medical facilities.
He further pointed out that, the outreach, is also part of the NAF Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and a viable medium to winning the hearts and minds, as well as appreciate Nigerians for their support and goodwill over the years.
AVM Ohwo, stated that the NAF Day celebration theme, “Enhancing Nigerian Air Force Operational Capability for Timely Employment of Air Power in Response to Contemporary Security Challenges”, simply shows that, the priority of the NAF, is to consolidate on the gains on the employment of air power, especially at this critical stage in the nation’s history.
Speaking on the activities to mark the 54th Anniversary celebration, he announced that, “A historical photo gallery/ static/R&D display; introduction of engineers wing; renewal of MoU with some of our R&D partners; gala night; ceremonial parade and aerial will take place.
“During the occasion, some attack helicopters would also be commissioned while erstwhile colours of Training Command would be retired. The new colours would be presented to the newly established Air Training Command and Ground Training Command by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The historical photo gallery statics/R&D display, introduction of engrs wing/Renewal of MoU with the R&D institutes, as well as the gala night will hold on Friday, 4 May 2018 while ceremonial parade incorporating the presentation of colours, commissioning of attack helicopters and aerial display,will hold on Saturday, 5 May 2018” he added.
While commending the media for their sense of patriotism and cooperation in building a strong and virile nation, as well as in promoting peace and unity in the country, he added that the NAF is relying on the media for timely and accurate reportage of every event marking the NAF Day Celebration.
He urged the general public, especially the people of Kaduna State, not to panic due to the movement of Air Platforms that would be taking part in the event.
This year’s NAF Day Celebration, also known as NAF at 54, is scheduled to take place at the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna from 4-5 May 2018.
