Abuja: The Nigerian Government have been called upon to strategize on ways to integrate coherent factors such as social, political, military as well as economic solutions to end the insurgency.
This was the submission of the former Chief of Army Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai in his keynote address at the Army Day Celebration Seminar in Abuja to mark the climax of the 2017 Army Day Celebration.
General Agwai posited that those thinking that the war against insurgency, which he categorized under the 4th Generation warfare, can be won by military solution alone, are over simplifying the situation, stating that those who stir up this kind of warfare do so for political, social or economic reasons.
Agwai also suggested that to win the war, the Nigeria Army must be infantry dominated with everyone in the army equipped with infantry skills in order to make every personnel always combat ready.
He stressed that true leadership at all level of the command is vital to winning the war against Boko Haram.
He therefore urged the Army leadership to ensure that the men in the field are well equipped and trained as that is also vital in winning the warfare confronting the country at this time.
He also lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai for taking the Army to a higher level through effective leadership, noting that despite being stretched internally and externally, the Army has held its head high.
Earlier, the Chief Of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai said the Army was working to ensure that Nigeria remains one and indivisible, pledging his men’s commitment to the discharge of their constitutional roles.
He added that the army has also ensured that civil-military relationship is inputted in its daily activities.
While reflecting on the years the Army has passed through, he gave tribute to all officers and men who have served diligently as well as those that have paid the supreme price for national development adding that the Nigeria Army Peace Keeping Centre Jaji will be renamed after Gen. Martin Luther Agwai.
