ABUJA: Students especially in primary and secondary schools have been advised to find people who build and support them so as to develop better self-esteem and a more positive sense of identity.
Making the charge in Abuja during the Advocacy for Positive Behavioral Patterns Initiative, Ambassador of Peace, Isreal Ibeleme urged the students to nurture the friendships in which reciprocal listening, kindness, and responsibility are present.
Speaking on the topic, “Overcoming inferiority complex, emotional intelligence, drug abuse, peer influence among others”, Ibeleme gave five ways to get rid of inferiority complex to include the following; Determine Who You Feel Inferior To; Stop Worrying About What Others Think; Build Your Self Confidence; Self-Talk; Surround Yourself With Positive People and go for therapy.
According to him, “Never you think that someone else is better than you because, you’re made different from others. The potential in you is greater than the one in another. don’t let anyone discourage you, believe in you and who you are, value every opportunity that come your way, help those you can help.
“In your life blueprint, you must have a basic principle, the determination to achieve excellence in your various fields of endeavour. You are going to be deciding as the day and the year unfold what you will do in life, what your life’s work will be.
“Once you discover what it will be, set out to do it and do it well. Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway just be a train, if you can’t be a sun, be a star, for it is not by size that you win or you fail, be the best of whatever you are” he said.
He further encouraged the students to be obedient and to take their studies seriously. “Students, it’s time to help yourselves and families. Obey your teachers, study hard. It’s not easy, yes I know but don’t give up, learn as if you were to live forever. Note: “if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything” So be the Change you wish to see in the World”.
