Abuja: A coalition of political parties, the Coalition for a New Nigeria, CNN, has described the recently held Lagos State Local Government Area elections as a charade and a daylight robbery.
The group which comprises, the Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), National Conscience Party, Young Democratic Party, and others, is said to have been formed to rebuild such systemic break down and bring forth a new Nigeria where everything works.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Chairman of the Coalition, Abulkadir Salam marvelled that the last weekend elections saw the same individuals clamoring for restructuring, destroying the already existing structure.
He said; “The election was not free and fair; What happened in Lagos is the same old practice of going into a room, compile results and announce them”.
While stressing that the political parties making up the coalition remain individually independent, the Chairman, who is also the National Chairman of the Labour Party noted that the coalition will however be synergizing to support a candidate for the 2019 presidential election.
According to him, “We have not contemplated merger, each one remains an independent political party. We have come together to see how we could support a new government for 2019 election at the center.
“Any Government that will emerge from this effort, must be rich in people oriented ideology, accountable and transparent”.
He promised that “in oder to lay a solid foundation for the economy of the new Nigeria of our dream, the following key areas will engage our immediate attention; Security, Health, agriculture, Power, Education, Transportation and Technology”.
He called on all well meaning Nigerians to put hands together with the coalition to cure the many ills currently facing the country.
On his part, Chief Ralph Nwosu National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said “our new Nigeria will be all inclusive, systems will work, the functions of institutions will be clearly defined. We have our framework and all the parties here have signed to conform to the framework.
On the absence of the President, Nwosu noted that “our country is hemorrhaging because of dearth of leadership. I know you raised the issue of our President deliberately because its the murmur across the country. Things like this gave us the confidence to form this coalition. What is happening now and since our democracy started is not right. The coalition is to recreate the system that will work”, he said.
