Abakaliki: Twenty three staff(23) of Ebonyi state Ministry of Information and State Orientation, Abakaliki, have been rewarded for their outstanding performance in their duties.
Performing the ceremony at Ebonyi state Broadcasting Corporation premises, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji, said, he was moved to introduce the reward system to motivate the staff of the ministry in discharging effectively the mandate of the ministry.
He described governor David Umahi as a great transformer that has brought quality leadership to bear,and according to him, needed nothing less than adequate media coverage of his developmental initiatives in the state.
“I must thank the governor of Ebonyi state, Chief Engr. David Umahi for making our job easy. The job of information dissemination is very critical, and our governor has made us to know what to say about Ebonyi state through his leadership ingenuity.
“When I came on board,I felt there was a need for us to move the ministry of Information and state Orientation forward and by implication, ensure that we project the mandate of the ministry.
“We have to roll out some of the interventions,one of which was to carry out what we call monthly capacity evaluation system—that every month,we see what we have put on the table in terms of productivity,and we have started with the Ministry of Information and other line parastatal. I also felt it was important to introduce a reward system to encourage and motivate staff for optimum performance.”
The Commissioner who, during the occasion unveiled the brand new mission and vision statement of the Ministry of Information and State Orientation,said his administration would embark on training and retraining of Information Officers, Public Relation Officers to enhance maximum productivity.
In a remark, the special Assistant to the governor on Sustainable Development,and chairman of the occasion, Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, commended governor David Umahi for making Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation(EBBC) a digital station. She appreciated the commissioner,Barr. Uchenna Orji, for his prudent management of resources and creativity.
She charged the Information Officers and Public relation officers to always project the good work of governor David Umahi’s led administration to the outside world.
Earlier,the Permanent Secretary,Ministry of Information and state Orientation, Hon. Kenneth Uhuo, explained that the award was in fulfilment of the promise made by the commissioner for Information and state Orientation,Barr. Uchenna Orji on assumption of duty, and expressed optimism that the award would spur the beneficiaries and other staff to work harder.
Some staff of the three parastatal under the Ministry of Information and state Orientation, namely; Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation(EBBC), Nigeria Patriot Newspapers and government Printing Press also benefited from the award.
It would be recalled that the Ebonyi state governor, Engr. David Umahi had during the last independence celebration and Ebonyi at 23, given an award of one million naira to the state ministry of Information and Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation(EBBC), for a well packaged documentary on his developmental projects.
