Ebonyi state government has expressed satisfaction with the smooth movement of Abakpa Main market traders to the new Margaret Umahi International market, Abakaliki.
This is one of the highlights of this week’s State Executive Council meeting held at EXCO chambers,government house, Abakaliki.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting,the commissioner for Information and State Orientation, and Acting Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Barr. Uchenna Orji,flanked by the Commissioner for Sport and Youth Development, Mr Charles Akpuenika, said the Council deliberated on the progress made on the movement of traders and expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance.
Commissioner Orji,said the Council banned all forms of street trading between the old government house and Ogoja road, Akanu Ibiam Flyover and new Stadium road. This he said,was to ensure that the entire metropolis retains its position as one of the leading beautiful capital cities in the country.
His words,”State Executive Council deliberated on the progress made on the movement of traders to Margaret Umahi International market, and EXCO was satisfied with the level of cooperation of the traders.
“Government is doing everything possible to show comfort on the side of the marketers, to ensure they use facilities that are in tune with the new trends in market development. Government has done a lot to ensure that the movement is smooth. Government has ensured that all the fundamental facilities are in place”.
To beef up Ebonyi state in the National Identity registration, Barr.Uchenna Orji added that Council approved the set up of Committees that would interface with consultants to ensure that 100 new registration units are created,while intensive enlightenment would be carried out in the rural communities.
The Commissioner for Youths and Sport Development, Mr Charles Akpuenika noted that the Council approved funds for the participation of Ebonyi contingents in the forthcoming National Sport Fiesta holding at Edo state.
He noted that Ebonyi, for the first time, during the elimination series, had qualified to represent South east in football,cricket,volleyball and basketball tournament, both male and female.
