About twenty four(24) health workers in Ebonyi state have been infected by the dreaded Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, while briefing governor David Umahi on the update of COVID-19 outbreak, during a meeting with the health management team, held at the new government house, Abakaliki.
Dr. Umezurike who also announced that 503 confirmed cases have been recorded in the state since the outbreak, while 357 cases have been successfully managed and discharged in line with NCDC guidelines, said the spike in the number of cases was due to the extensive tests being conducted in the state.
He said that a total of 3,369 samples have been tested.
Dr. Umezurike thanked governor Umahi for all his efforts in combating the dreaded pandemic, assuring that the health workers in the state will continue to remain committed to their duties in the fight against COVID-19.
In his response, governor Umahi announced that N105 million has been approved for minor equipments for three General hospitals in the state, namely; Ikwo, Ishielu and Onicha General hospitals, blaming the sharp increase in community transmission in the state to non compliance of the NCDC safety measures and wrong impression being held by some people that there was nothing like coronavirus.
He said the state government would in a few days review its work plan in a bid to effectively combat the coronavirus pandemic, and called on the people of the state to always observe NCDC safety measures to fight the menace.
