Abakaliki—Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has called on civil servants in the state not to fall to the antics of his opponents, saying he has the best interest of civil servants at heart.
Umahi, who spoke at the PDP campaign rally held at Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, warned civil servants to be careful, in order not to be deceived by politicians who approach them with empty promises, only to get their votes.
He assured them that his administration would continue to ensure the welfare of workers, and enumerated some packages already put in place for them by his administration to include; the payment of workers salary on 15th of every month; Payment of 13th month salary; Granting of 4 billion Naira soft loan at minimal interest rate; Payment of health insurance scheme; Regular payment of pension and some gratuities, among others.
The governor, berated the state gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Sunny Ogbuorji, for making workers’ welfare his campaign slogan, adding that he should be ignored as he doesn’t know anything about governance.
“How can the good people of Ebonyi state vote for a sleeping man as their governor?”, he queried.
Umahi said his administration has judiciously utilized every Kobo that accrued to the coffers of the state, prudently, for the betterment of the people including the civil servants.
He noted, that while other states were owing salaries, increasing taxes and school fees to be able to meet up with the economic hardship facing the nation, his administration has rather reduced both taxes and school fees in the state.
Umahi, called on the people of Afikpo North to vote overwhelmingly for the PDP candidates, starting from Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidates, Peter Obi, his vice, himself the Governor, National Assembly candidates and other PDP candidates, stressing that, he will not relent in his administration to make Afikpo the second city in the state.
He promised to construct more internal roads in Afikpo, just as he announced that the dualization of Abakaliki/Afikpo road has commenced. Umahi, emphasised that only PDP government will salvage the country, through Atiku Abubakar.
However, there was a political drama at the campaign rally when the South East vice Chairman of PDP, Chief Austin Umahi issued a red card to the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji, who was in PDP as a senator, before he defected to APC to contest governorship position in the state, the Party which he rode on to the Senate.
