Abuja-The Nigeria custom service (NCS) has officially launched the NCS e-auction portal which is an open system in line with provisions of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) to auction seized and over timed cargoes.
The Controller General Nigeria Custom Service(NCS), Col. Hammed Ibrahim Ali who conducted the launch at the headquarters of NCS in Abuja on Monday, said that the launch was a complete departure from the manual process of the past, which was not without problems.
He announced that the old system was open to abuse and had brought much negative comments against the custom service, stating that with the advancement of global technology, the NCS feels that it should not be left out.
Ali expressed believe that the new system will serve as a way for the NCS to discharge its statutory function in an open, transparent and accountable manner.
According to him; “The NCS has over the course of the past two months engaged the services of both mainstream and online media to help sensitize the people of Nigeria on the guidelines of the auction platform”.
The e-auction platform would run a 48 hours bid on items and the highest bidder will be given five days to pay for the purchased item.
