Abakaliki: Security agencies in Ebonyi state have been ordered to arrest anyone seen outside not putting on face masks.
This is just as tailors in the state have been asked to liaise with the speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Ogbonnia Nwifuru, for the mass production of the protective items.
This was contained in a release issued and signed by the commissioner for Information and State Orientation, and Acting Commissioner for Human capital Development, Barr. Uchenna Orji.
According to Orji, the directive was part of the measures by the state government to prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus to the state.
The statement stressed that governor Umahi, has directed that with effect from April 4th 2020,anybody seen outside his or her house must wear a face mask, adding that a handkerchief, scarf or pre-made medical mask could also serve the purpose of a face mask.
“Security agencies, all sub-committees on COVID-19, Chairmen of Local Government Areas, Coordinators and indeed all Government officials are hereby directed to arrest anyone seen outside his/her home anywhere in Ebonyi State without wearing a face mask” he stated.
“Ebonyi government still requests for information on anyone that is showing symptoms of high body temperature (fever), dry cough, and difficulty in breathing and returnees from the infested countries or States of Nigeria. It is to be noted that older people and those with other medical conditions (such as Asthma, diabetes, or heart diseases) may be more vulnerable to Coronavirus”.
Orji who emphasized the importance of hand sanitizers, washing of hands and steaming twice a day, including frequent intake of hot liquids in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic,maintained that the ban on social and Religious gatherings is still in force and anyone that defies these regulations will be arrested and premises acquired by government.
“Government is working hard to compile the names of all those that will be needing palliatives from the state and those that will benefit from the Federal Government Conditional Cash Transfer and this will be made known to the public as soon as we are ready,” the statement added.
