Commissioner Tasks Ebonyi Information Managers on ICT compliance

Abakaliki—State Information Officers and Public Relation Officers of Ebonyi state Ministry of Information and State Orientation, have been charged to be ICT compliant, to drive the e-governance initiatives of governor David Umahi-led administration.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji, gave the charge during the monthly performance evaluation exercise of the ministry of Information, held at the Cabinet office, Abakaliki.

The commissioner who explained that the essence of the exercise was to enhance performance and productivity, decried the way and manner Information officers and public relation officers of the state, are kept aside in some ministries and local government areas,thereby allowing non professionals to do the job of Public relation officers. 

He warned that such an attitude would not be allowed to continue in his tenure. 

In his words,”The essence of the exercise is to see how we can enhance your performance and productivity ratio, so that any thing about Information will be counted first.

“I must say, that I decry the way and manner Information officers and public relation officers are being kept aside in the ministries and local government areas,while non professionals are used to do the work of Public relation officers. Under my watch,it will not continue to happen.

“I will do a letter to all MDAs and all the local government areas to tell them about our innovations and our initiatives to ensure that they will no longer have a doubt in our performance.

“I will also make a policy that,only the Information officers and public relation officers,in the absence of Chief executives should do announcement that has to do with information management. Because, we cannot allow information to be flying under the control of those who have no hand in information.

“Having said that, it is expected that all the public relation officers,Information officers and those working under the Ministry of Information or parastatals, should be ICT compliant. 

“In the years ahead, the Information Officers and Public Relation Officers should be driving the e-governance development initiative of the administration of governor David Umahi. They will also drive the ease of doing business initiative of the governor, he emphasized.

Highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of new mission and vision statement of the state ministry of Information and state Orientation by Barr. Orji.
