Christians in Nigeria have been urged to take advantage of Christmas to pray for love, peace and unity in the country.
The Democratic People’s Congress, DPC made this call in its Christmas message contained in a Statement signed by its National Chairman, Rev. Olusegun Peters and issued to newsmen.
The party also called on the Federal Government to take steps to alleviate the suffering of the populace by providing dividends of democracy the ruling All Progressives Congress promised Nigerians in 2015.
The statement reads: “the DPC felicitates with Christians on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebrations, signifying the supernatural birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.
It is a remarkable day in the Christendom and calls for sober reflection on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
We urge Christians to rededicate their lives in service to God and humanity. They should also use the occasion to pray for love, peace and unity in the country.
It is obvious that the nation is facing a hard time, the party urges the Federal Government to take steps to alleviate the suffering of the populace by providing dividends of democracy the ruling All Progressives Congress promised Nigerians in 2015.
This is in tandem with Section 14(2)b of the 1999 constitution as amended which states that, “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
“The interest of the nation should at all time supersede partisan politics and individual interest. It is time to build a strong, virile, progressive and equitable democratic society where nobody is oppressed. It is a new dawn for our great nation”.
