His words, “I also came here to thank you for being a disciple of Christ in government through your impactful leadership. When I am saying this, it is not to flatter you because I can see what you have done since you came to leadership of Ebonyi state.
“When we get to the arena where you built the International conference center, where you built the International shopping center, where you built the cathedral, called the chapel for the church in Ebonyi state, one will think that he is in New York, or any other developed city of the world.
“It means that our landscape can be transformed with leaders who are like children of Issachar. The people who had understanding and knew what they ought to do. We thank God for bringing somebody like you and your team in leadership. Two cannot work together except they agree.
“Therefore, I give Kudos to your team for purposeful leadership. I want to also encourage you by our visit that we identify with the progress you are making and we want it to serve as reinforcement for better performance.
“I am here again to thank you for partnering with the church in Ebonyi state and also at the national level. We have seen how you have been making use of the leadership of the church in the running of your government.
“Putting them at the centre of your activities, even as Special advisers. I was listening to the state radio yesterday, when one of them,Senior Special Adviser on religious and welfare matters, the state CAN Chairman, Rev.Father Abraham Nwali was described as the conscience of the State Executive Council(EXCO)”, he said.
Responding, Governor Umahi thanked the National President of CAN, Rev. Sampson Ayokunle for appreciating his modest achievement in the state.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, assured that his government would continue to partner with Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) at both the state and national levels.
He said the appointment of Rev. Father Abraham Nwali as member of the state Executive council, has closed the gap between government and Christians, and urged government at all levels in Nigeria to emulate this by appointing Christians into positions of authority, stressing that if Christians begin to fall away and neglect to lead, then they will be led by infidels.
