Abakaliki: Ebonyi state governor, Engr. David Umahi and some of his close aides have tested positive for coronavirus.
Both the governor and his aides showed no symptoms, but have since isolated themselves in line with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols.
The governor disclosed this in a statement he personally signed and issued on Saturday.
In the statement, Umahi directed his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe to take over the front line determined coordination of the fight against the pandemic, stressing that nothing should be feared, as the people will not be abandoned at this trying period.
He enjoined Ebonyians to take the NCDC protocols more seriously.
In his words, “Today, 4th July, my result and some of my close aides’ tests returned positive for COVID-19.
“My deputy takes over the frontline coordination of our determined fight against this pandemic to protect our people.
“However, there are no regrets and nothing is to be feared about as our people will not be abandoned at a trying period like now.
“I am working from home and all my meetings will be through virtual. Soonest, we will all test negative and reunite”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi state has, Friday evening, according to the NCDC report, recorded about 438 cases, while about 357 cases have been successfully treated and discharged with three number of deaths recorded in the state.
