The Out-going Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru has taken a bow from the Corporation after an exciting career that spanned from July 4, 2016 to July 8, 2019.
Baru who was the 18th GMD of the Corporation, is an indigene of Misau, Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi state, and started his NNPC Career as the Engineering Manager, National Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO) from May to November 1991.
Before being appointed the GMD, he was appointed as Technical Adviser (Gas Matters) to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources in March 2016.
In his valedictory session on Monday in Abuja, the out-going GMD urged the new management team to focus on the STEP agenda which is—Staff, Transparency, Energy and production.
He charged the new team to focus on staff development, efficiency and productivity; Transparency of operations to resolve liquidity challenges and financial reporting standard; NNPC should continue to lead the way in the provision of energy security as a supplier of last resort for petroleum products to Nigerians, power and other energy mix for the country.
He also urged them to vigorously focus on the growth of oil and gas production and reserve through aggressive exploration campaign in the traditional basins and frontier basins, and opening up of deep offshore through negotiation of fiscal terms.
While noting that the task ahead is enormous, he stated that he has no doubt the new management team will deliver the Next Level agenda of moving the Corporation to even greater heights.
“Your success in turning around the fortunes of NNPC is success for all of us”, he said.
He further announced the new management team which include:Umar Isa Ajiya, CFO; Mr. Farouq Garba COO CS; Mr. Roland Onoriode Ewubare, the COO Upstream; Engineer Adeyemi Adetunji, the COO, Downstream; Engineer Ms. Lawrencia Ndupu,the COO Ventures; Engineer Yusuf Usman, the COO Gas and Power; and Engineer Mustapha Yinusa Yakubu, COO Refineries and Petrochemicals.
The Valedictory session was well attended by past GMDs as well as the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.
