The Bangladesh High Commission is set to participate in the 2019 edition of the Carnival Calabar.
This was declared by the High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Md. Shameem Ahsan, when the Cross River State Carnival Chairman paid him a courtesy visit.
The Commissioner who expressed excitement to be at the Carnival, requested to put up a large stall where Bangladeshi products and literature will be exhibited at the 30 days carnival.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Carnival Calabar Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah who gave a brief summary of this year’s Carnival plans, noted that the number of foreign participants has increased over the years.
He added that the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade has approved the High Commissioner to be among the dignitaries to declare the carnival dry-run which comes up Sun 20th October open.
The 2019 Carnival Calabar has the theme “Humanity”, and Governor Ayade has said that the Carnival should be beyond dance.
According to him, “the intellectual content of the carnival should be beyond dance, it must pass a strong message that would make the world a better place for humanity”.
Also, in a related chat with the media, Onah noted that the carnival would foster ethnic and religious tolerance among nations.
