#AnambraDecides: Governorship Candidates Sign Peace Accord

AWKA: The candidates of the 18 political parties contesting in the November 6, 2021 Anambra Governorship election, on Thursday, signed a Peace Accord at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka.

Those who signed the pact include; former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo; Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Senators Ifeanyi Ubah of APGA and Andy Ubah of APC.

The peace pact which was signed to ensure a violence-free poll, before, during and after the November 6th Governorship Election, had in attendance the candidates of all the political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman and the National Peace Committee (NPC) Chairman, as well as other important dignitaries. 

Chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), General Abdulsalam Abubakar, while speaking at the occasion, charged the candidates to abide by the letter and spirit of the Peace Accord which they have agreed to.

He also emphasized that the Peace Accord is not just a mere exercise, but a clarion call to them all to commit to a peaceful election.

For his part, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who said the Commission has done all it should to make the electoral process smooth against all odds,  appealed for violence-free polls, noting that if the election is not violence-free, the entire electoral process will be undermined.

Other dignitaries at the event organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) were; the  Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba Alkali represented by DIG Joseph Egbunike who hails from Anambra state, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Anambra state, the leadership of all the political parties and Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Chairmen, National and Anambra State Chapter.
