Port Harcourt-The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA)in sustenance of efforts at reducing unemployment among women and youths in Nigeria, has inaugurated a skill acquisition and vocational training programme for 150 women and youths at the 115 Special Operations Group Port Harcourt.
In a statement by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, the trainees, who were mostly widows, orphans and dependants of deceased NAF personnel, will be empowered with requisite skills to make them self-reliant and economically productive.
In her speech at the occasion, the NAFOWA National President, Hajiya Hafsat Sadique Abubakar, urged the 150 participants to take the training seriously and apply themselves towards obtaining impressive results.
Mrs Abubakar also encouraged them to work hard and see the training as an opportunity for greater achievements.
The skill acquisition and vocational training programme, which is in support of the Federal Government’s pledge at curbing youth unemployment, has been successfully actualized in four NAF Bases in Lagos, Makurdi, Kaduna and Maiduguri. As a result, over 600 women, youths and widows have benefited from the empowerment programme since inception.
