Inactivity: 46,000 Companies Delisted In  2016- CAC

-Phases Out Physical Submission Of New Application In Six States

Abuja- The Corporate Affairs Commission, (CAC) has disclosed that it delisted 46,000 non functional companies in 2016 alone out of a total of 1.5 million companies on its data base, to give room for fresh registrations.

Making the disclosure on Monday in a press briefing, the Registrar General of the Commission, Bello Mahmud,noted that the move was part of the Commission’s ongoing reforms to make room so as to ease registration for its customers as most of the delisted companies were inactive.

The RG also announced that with the launch of the Company Registration Portal(CRP), the Commission has currently phased out physical submission of new applications for registration in six State offices which are: Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Enugu and Port Harcourt.

Mahmud explained that the move to go fully online is to guarantee uninterrupted availability of services and ensure efficient service delivery to customers, adding that safeguard measures are in place to check the activities of fraudsters.

According to him; “The ultimate goal of this management is to make the CAC a world class Companies registry, providing excellent registration services. The online registration is cheaper, faster and convenient as transactions can be conducted from the comfort of homes and offices and over 1,250 transactions have been submitted online already.

“Customers processing new registration in these locations shall directly complete the application forms and other relevant information and pay Stamp Duty on the Company Registration Portal. Customers can upload all necessary documents through the Commission’s upload interface,” he said.

Also, the Director Compliance and Special Assistant to the RG, Garba Abubakar, while explaining further, noted that the Agency envisaged the activities of fraudsters which led to the provision of the safeguard measures.

He said, “For you to register directly you must have created an account on the company’s registration portal. Any application you are submitting, the portal automatically processes the information about you and make you the first director and you cannot alter that.

” If you are registering a business name you are automatically a partner and you cannot change that. So the question of non-professional hijacking the process will not arise”.
