Nigeria’s Davis Cup team has departed for Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the 2026 Davis Cup World Group II tie against Morocco scheduled for September 19 and 20.

The Nigerian contingent left the country in the early hours of Monday, September 14, aboard Royal Air Maroc for the crucial encounter at the Union Sportive des Cheminots de Tennis du Maroc.

Team Nigeria will be seeking to end a difficult head-to-head record against Morocco, having lost all four previous meetings between the two countries.

The squad has undergone three weeks of intensive training, with the camp focused on improving the players’ performance and strengthening team chemistry ahead of the tie.

The Nigerian team comprises Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar, under the guidance of Head Coach Benson Ishicheli.

Rising tennis star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin is expected to join the team in Morocco to complete the five-man lineup. Ogunsakin recently represented Nigeria at Grand Slam tournaments, including Roland Garros and the US Open.

Nigeria secured its place in the World Group II stage for the first time in 30 years following a hard-fought victory over Uzbekistan in February.

With promotion to the Davis Cup World Group I at stake, the Nigerian team will be aiming to produce a historic victory over Morocco and advance to the next level of the competition.

The National Sports Commission expressed confidence in the team’s preparations as the players seek to fly Nigeria’s flag high and create a new chapter in the country’s Davis Cup history.

The winner of the Morocco-Nigeria tie will earn promotion to the Davis Cup World Group I.
