The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25th August 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-el-Mawlid, celebrated in remembrance of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Announcing the holiday on behalf of the government, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing the celebration as an occasion to reflect on compassion, humility and service to others.
“Every Eid-el-Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said, urging Nigerians of all faiths to reflect on those values.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to use the period for collective prayer for the country’s peace and cohesion, describing national unity as a shared responsibility. He also urged Nigerians to mark the celebration with restraint and mutual respect.
The minister reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide and to maintaining peace across the country.
