The Association of Proprietors of Private Media Establishments of Nigeria (APPMEN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel, describing the move as a major boost to Nigeria’s security architecture.

In a statement issued by its National Secretariat, the association said the President’s decision was a bold and strategic intervention aimed at strengthening the nation’s capacity to combat insecurity and protect lives and property.

According to APPMEN, the approval reflects visionary leadership and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to building a stronger, better-equipped and more responsive military capable of addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.

The association noted that the establishment of four additional army divisions, including the proposed 83 Division in the South-South with headquarters in Benin City, Edo State, would improve operational efficiency, intelligence gathering and rapid troop deployment.

It added that the expansion would enhance coordinated military operations against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery and other criminal activities threatening peace and national stability.

APPMEN further stated that the recruitment of 28,000 new personnel would significantly strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational capacity, improve border security, reinforce internal security operations and support ongoing efforts to restore peace in troubled parts of the country.

The association also said the move aligns with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda by creating a safer environment that would encourage investment, stimulate economic growth and accelerate national development.

It urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces and other security agencies by providing credible intelligence and cooperating with lawful authorities, stressing that national security is a collective responsibility.

APPMEN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening national security, promoting peace, protecting communities and advancing sustainable development across the country.
