The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.
The Commission announced that the new deadline is now midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, replacing the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna noted.
According to INEC, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.
The electoral body said the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring inclusiveness in the electoral process while operating within the provisions of the law.
INEC urged all political parties to take advantage of the extension by completing the upload of their candidates’ names and required personal details before the new deadline expires.
