The Federal Government has expressed profound condolences to the Government and people of Qatar following the death of the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government described the late Sheikh Hamad, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, as a visionary leader whose contributions to the development and modernization of Qatar left a lasting legacy.
According to the statement, the late Father Amir was widely respected for his commitment to national progress, regional stability, and international cooperation, with his leadership earning admiration across the Gulf region and beyond.
On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, extended heartfelt condolences to the Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar over the loss.
The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Father Amir’s soul, while asking God to grant his family and the Qatari people the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear the loss.
