With 13 days to the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has partnered with broadcast company What Network to provide Nigerians with free-to-air coverage of the multi-sport event.
Under the arrangement, What Network has secured the free-to-air broadcast rights for Nigeria, allowing millions of viewers to watch Team Nigeria’s campaign live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), TV Continental (TVC), and other interested terrestrial television stations. The Games will also be streamed online at no cost.
The Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the partnership as a significant step toward bringing the Games closer to Nigerians and strengthening support for the country’s athletes.
Olopade said the collaboration would enable Nigerians across the country to follow Team Nigeria’s performances live while celebrating the achievements of the athletes and inspiring the next generation of sports stars.
Broadcast coverage will commence with the opening ceremony on July 23 and continue throughout the Games. In addition to live events, viewers will have access to a daily two-hour highlights programme featuring key moments, medal-winning performances, athlete interviews, and behind-the-scenes coverage from Glasgow.
The NSC said the initiative reflects its commitment to making major international sporting events accessible to Nigerians while boosting nationwide support for Team Nigeria as it competes on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
Nigeria is expected to field a strong contingent at the Games, including world record holder Tobi Amusan, sprint sensation Kayinsola Ajayi, shot put athlete Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, para-powerlifting champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo, alongside other elite athletes competing in athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, weightlifting, and para sports.
