Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ambassador Mohammed Idris Haidara, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, officially commencing his duties as Nigeria’s principal diplomatic representative to the European nation.

The credential presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Haidara conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Dutch monarch. He reaffirmed the strong and enduring relationship between Nigeria and the Netherlands, describing it as one founded on mutual respect, expanding trade relations, and a shared commitment to multilateral cooperation.

The ambassador highlighted the broad areas of collaboration between both countries, including agriculture, renewable energy, maritime security, and the pursuit of justice, noting that bilateral relations have continued to grow on a mutually beneficial path of sustainable development.

According to Ambassador Haidara, his appointment by President Tinubu reflects Nigeria’s commitment to deepening diplomatic ties with the Netherlands, expanding economic partnerships, and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two nations.

In keeping with Dutch diplomatic tradition, Ambassador Haidara was conveyed to Noordeinde Palace in a royal carriage, accompanied by the Royal Chamberlain and horsemen of the Royal Netherlands Mounted Police.

Upon arrival at the palace, a military band rendered honours, including four ceremonial drumrolls and the Nigerian national anthem. The ambassador subsequently inspected the guard of honour before formally presenting his credentials to King Willem-Alexander.

The ceremony concluded with a brief bilateral meeting between the Dutch monarch and the Nigerian envoy.

The presentation of the Letters of Credence formally authorises Ambassador Haidara to represent Nigeria’s interests and further strengthen relations between Abuja and The Hague.
