History was made in the United States of America, from July 5th to July 7th, as sons and daughters of Umuaka autonomous community of Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria, resident in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, under the umbrella of Umuaka Youths Association Tri-State Branch, hosted its first-ever convention and also launched an official music album for the promotion of their culture.
In a statement issued by the association, also known as Umuaka Tri-State, and jointly signed by the President, Chinedu Okoro; Vice President, Chibugo Durugo; Secretary General, Dr. Ogenchi Nnoli; and Public Relations Officer, Chialuka Onyema; it stated that the convention held at Robert Treat Hotel, Newark, New Jersey, was a landmark in the history of Umuaka in the USA, and would enable Umuaka youths in all parts of America to preserve their unique culture.
The music album, entitled, “Egwu Umu Umuka” (music from sons and daughters of Umuaka), contains 7 tracks, including “Nwa Aka Azuru Azu”, “Umuaka, Ndi Nwere Ugo”, “Nwa Afor Akah”, “Oja Ndi Akah”, “Umu Umuaka Na Abia”, “Umu Umuaka Ndi Oma”,and “Egwu Oganihu Umuaka”, which is available on YouTube (search title, Sons and Daughters of Umuaka).
Chief Michael Amuzie, the Nigerian-born Chief Engineer/Deputy Director-Head of Mechanical Inspection Bureau of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Compliance (MIPP&PVC) in the State of New Jersey, USA, is the association’s life patron.
The communique reads in part, “From Friday, July 5th – Sunday July 7th, marked history as Sons & Daughters of Umuaka Tri-State aka, Umuaka Youths Association Tri-State Branch (New York, New Jersey & Connecticut) hosted their first-ever three-day convention and launching of their new official music album in Newark, New Jersey. This was one of the best events Umuaka in the U.S.A. has ever had.
“This was a pure celebration of Umuaka youths from different branches such as Dallas, Baltimore, California, Atlanta, and Alabama in keeping our unique culture alive. Our new official music, our traditions, and our values are the threads that weave the fabric of our identity. This three-day convention was in collaboration with the Umuaka National Union USA Youth Wing, under the general leadership of Chief Dr. Favor Awuzu, to come together, increase membership, and to celebrate our culture in a grand style.
“This convention as well as our first-ever music launching of New Jersey Youths was to raise funds for our upcoming Umuaka youth empowerment and scholarship project for students in Umuaka lined up for execution coming very soon. We thank our sponsors for their various support, donations and advice to get to know one another as youths and have the opportunity to intermarry with guidance of our parents, which we all agreed upon.
