The Federal Ministry of Communications says Information and Communication Technology (ICT) being an enabler of economic growth and development was envisaged to drive the successful implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) if harnessed effectively and efficiently.

The Permanent Secretary, Abdulaziz Mashi- Abdullahi stated this at the opening ceremony of the technical session of the NCCT, in Katsina, adding that for justice to be done to the theme, “Harnessing ICT as the main tool for driving the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan” it is crucial for the meeting of officials, to carry out robust deliberations and recommend decisions that would translate in policies that would ensure a successful implantation of the ERGP.

The permsec also disclosed that the major attraction of this year’s council meeting is the “ICT PEER REVIEW DAY” scheduled for Wednesday, the 22ND November 2017 adding that the event would give states the opportunity to showcase ICT activities in their various states, particularly success stories in their application of ICTs in solving governance and development issues.

Mr. Mashi-Abdullahi commended the efforts of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, of Katsina State and his Officials for accepting to host the meeting.

In his welcome address, the Special Adviser on Science and Technology to the State Governor, Dr. Rabe Nasir, said the state is grateful for the choice of Katsina for this year’s annual general meeting of the NCCT, adding that the state is in the forefront in efforts to facilitate laying basic infrastructures to determine and shape governance and fast track same in the educational institution across the state.

He urged participants to take active participation as the whole country awaits their tangible contributions to further accelerate and entrench the ICT culture in its entire ramification to ensure national cohesion, security and good governance.
