Abuja: The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu  has stressed the need for critical stakeholders to strategize and work out modalities for addressing security threats to the nations Assets.

Speaking at the Opening of a Two Day Workshop on Security and Protection of Corporate and National Critical Assets and Infrastructure for Global best Practices in a Leading Continental Economy organised in conjunctiom with ANCOR Technologies, Muhammadu disclosed that, “as a lead agency in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, the NSCDC has emplaced a structured plan towards eliminating threats to our critical infrastructure, by first taking into account existing protective measures and identifying security gaps which will need to be addressed through specific protection measures”.

The Commandant General, who was represented by the Deputy Commandant, Operations, Madu Hilary Kelechi pointed out that it was imperative for all Nigerians to support government’s efforts towards ensuring that these infrastructures are protected, saying that in view of their economic importance to the nation, any threat to these infrastructures is a threat to the collective existence of every Nigerian.

He expressed hope that, “the workshop will address some of these challenges and fashion out the best approach towards effectively preserving and protecting our corporate and national critical Assets and Infrastructure nationwide by developing systems and strategies to wade off potential threats and attacks”.

He also commended the  military for its support in volatile areas in ensuring that these infrastructures are protected.

The Assistant Commandant General, Critical infrastructure Protection, Jonathan Iyogho on his part, expressed optimism that the workshop will open another window of training for its officers and men, saying that after the workshop, “whatever discussions or resolutions that come out will be transmitted as training for our officers in order to improve their efficiency”.

He also disclosed that “this workshop is not a once in a blue moon workshop. We intend to move round the country. What we are having here is workshop for the Abuja center. After this workshop we are going to move to Lagos, Port Harcourt and other places”.

Also, the program Architect, and CEO, ANCHOR Technologies Group, Anselm Chikwe stated that “the purpose of the workshop is security and protection of these corporate and national critical infrastructures. Protection incorporates maintenance, incorporates  risks identification, risk management, vulnerabilities, exposures, and actions to safeguard.

“So maintenance is a core in this workshop and we are going to highlight on it very carefully and apply our knowledge experience in infrastructure maintenance” he said.
