Abakaliki: Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has assured the people of the state that his transition after his eight years tenure will be most peaceful.

He gave the assurance in Abakaliki during the grand finale of this year’s Izzi Ojiji New yam festival, held at Amegu, the ancestral home of Izzi Nodo.

Governor Umahi who thanked the people of Izzi for their support to his administration, said only God and the leaders of the state would decide every position in the state at the time of transitioning, stressing that it is only when one man wants to decide that there would be problems.

His words, “Almighty God and leaders of the state are going to decide every position in this state at the time of transition, mark my words!

“Whether you are in APC, PDP, APGA or any other political Parties, is not my business. My business is God and leaders of the state. Whomever they choose, they can also choose Political Party. I know they will not leave Governor’s Party. And if they choose anybody from APGA, they will baptise him. There is no need for tension.

“The elders council, founding fathers, former and present political leaders.. There will be meetings and meetings and meetings. All the past governors and present governors, they are together. We are at peace”, he said.

Umahi, however, warned Izzi Nodo youths against kindred dichotomy, which he observed had in the past torn apart, Izzi clan. He charged the youths not to allow the elders who fan the embers of kindred dichotomy in Izzi land to deceive them as they had, “served out their share in government through holding various political positions”.

“Youths, let me tell you one thing, the elders are cheating you in the name of kindred. Even in my administration, if you talk about kindred, I will show you the way out. And I am very happy I didn’t know what kindred was. But, like I ask our leaders to make appointments contrary to the opinion of our people, they will go to other kindred and make appointments. That is how it is supposed to be”.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Senator Chris Nwankwo, said Izzi people were not divided as speculated, while Senator Sam Egwu, representing Ebonyi North zone, and Sylvester Ogbaga, representing Abakaliki/Izzi federal constituency in their separate remarks, thanked governor David Umahi, for siting several projects in Izzi land, assuring that the people would continue to support governor him just as they vowed to put Izzi kindred dichotomy to rest.
