Abakaliki: Ebonyi state government has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order full-scale investigation into an alleged invasion of governor David Umahi’s residence in Abuja by the police.

The call came after the state Executive council meeting held at EXCO Chambers, government house Abakaliki.

In a communique read after the meeting the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Cletus Ophoke, condemned in entirety the alleged invasion by the police, describing it as barbaric, unwarranted and undemocratic, adding that it came barely 24 hours after the South East Governors Forum banned herders from moving around in the zone with AK-47 and Machetes.

Other resolutions reached by the Council, reads in parts; “That we urge the IGP and other security agencies to immediately commence full-scale investigations into the ugly and shameful act and come up with a position paper as regards the safety of our governor, both in Abuja and any other part of the world.

“That inescapable conclusion to be drawn from the modus operandi of the security operatives involved in the act,is that they had a singular mission to plant incriminating evidence in the property towards framing trump-up charges against governor Umahi.

“The sole purpose of this dastardly and hideous plot is to intimidate and silence Governor Umahi and his colleagues at the South East Governors’ Forum and prevent them from discharging their mandate of speaking boldly on behalf of the South East People, especially on the issue of security in the zone.

“We hereby alert the International community of the obvious attempt to circumvent the Rule of Law and freedom of expression in Nigeria as exemplified by the actions of the security operatives on a sitting governor who enjoys immunity.

“We urge the Nigeria Police to always have recourse to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other laws in carrying out their operations and not to undermine the provisions of the constitution which are sacrosanct, unambiguous and supreme.

“We ask President Muhammadu Buhari to order a full-scale investigation into this curious invasion by security operatives with a view to ensuring that the perpetrators are speedily brought to justice,” they ended.
