Abakaliki: Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, has been rated as the best governor in Nigeria by the Executive Intelligence Management Course 12 of the Institute of Security Studies, Abuja.
The group which cited infrastructural development and good governance as the parameter, gave the rating after their seven-day study tour in Ebonyi state which took them to various project sites and local government councils.
Making their views known in Abakaliki, the leader of the team, Mrs Angela Isioma Oloseli after inspecting projects executed by governor Umahi within his four years in office, said the team became marveled on the magnitude of infrastructural development recorded, hence their bold step to score governor Umahi high.
According to her, the report would be officially presented to the Institute of security studies Abuja, on May 9, 2019.
In her words, ”Ebonyi state is clearly an eloquent testimony of purposeful leadership and an illustration of modern-day messiah. We see governor Umahi as the messiah, not only to the state but Nigeria in the nearest future.
“Ebonyi state had been marginalised, not only in south-east but in the nation as a whole, we thank God for what we have in Ebonyi state today.
”We have seen several kilometers of concrete roads spread across the local government areas, giant ultra-modern international market, fertilizer blending plant, rice mills, world-class Ecumenical centre, shopping mall, flyovers, college of Nursing and Midwifery, Salt lake, Uburu proposed teaching hospital and Industrial cluster, among others. Ebonyi state has simply turned, a huge construction site”, she said.
”I feel that other Nigerian states should be allowed to come and copy from Ebonyi under the leadership of governor Umahi with which the development in Nigeria will become a reality. I have not seen anything like this in the history of West Africa”, she added.
The team leader who explained that the course participants had interactive session with the members of the state Executive council, local government chairmen and stakeholders to discuss security challenges, gave kudos to members of the state executive council for their key role in developing the state.
According to her, the chairmen and stakeholders of Ikwo, Ebonyi, Ohaozara, Afikpo North local government areas, had interacted with her team especially on the relationship between farmers and herders in their councils, to affirm that Ebonyi state government, has constituted farmers\herdsmen committees, both at state and local govt levels, backed by a law that makes it an offence for herders to destroy farmers crops and farmers to kill the cows of herders.
Also, Ohaozara local government chairman, Princess Nkechinyere Iyorku and her Afikpo North counterpart, Chief Ogbonnia Oko Enyim made it emphatic that the problems of herdsmen despite government efforts to protect both sides through setting up herders\farmers committee, has continued to rear its ugly head in their councils, as herders often violate the law by refusing to pay farmers when their crops were destroyed while farmers on their own side would offer to pay if they kill herders cow.
In her remarks, the chairman, Ebonyi Local Government Area, Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga commended governor David Umahi for setting up Neighbourhood watch in the state and vigilante group at community levels, stressing that such initiatives has helped in mitigating the security challenges confronting her council.
Earlier, in an interactive session with state executive council, governor,David Umahi, who was represented by the Deputy governor,Barr.Kelechi Igwe, thanked the Executive Intelligence management course participants for their observation on the laudable achievements of governor Umahi and expressed the hope that their unbiased report would be forwarded to appropriate quarters to help Nigeria move forward.
