AMVCA Participants May Have Been Exposed to Coronavirus— Says Lagos Govt

As Banky W Reacts

The Lagos State Ministry of Health (LSMOH) has taken to its Twitter handle @LSMOH to announce that all participants at the recently concluded Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2020 may have been exposed to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID19).

This is just as the Ministry said, that the participants may have come in contact with one of the confirmed cases in Lagos.

The tweet read, “#COVID19 Lagos Alert🔊! I hereby notify you that all participants at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA) held on 14th March at @EkoHotels may have come in contact with one of the confirmed cases in Lagos and are most likely to have been exposed to #COVID19 Infection”.

Reacting to this, Singer and Actor, Bankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, took to his Twitter handle @BankyW to announce that him and his wife Adesua have been in self-Isolation since last week.

While noting that the threat of the virus is real, he urged Nigerians that can afford to stay home to do so.

His tweets read, “Mrs W and (sic)were already self-isolating since last week.. and here’s the thing… everyone else who attended the AMVCA’s should already have been doing the same. This threat is real. Don’t wait until you know an infected person before you take it seriously. Please.

“Nigeria is tough… a lot of our people cannot afford to stay home because their daily food comes from being out, hustling on the streets for work. If you can afford to stay home and you have chosen not to, that’s either ignorance or wickedness, or both. And it’s not okay!!!”.

Attendees at the said event have been advised to: Observe strict self- isolation and call 08000corona if they notice any of the #COVID19 related symptoms.
